Our Instructional Focus

When teachers plan, implement, and differentiate lessons with appropriately rigorous tasks that require students to:

  • analyze a variety of culturally responsive-sustaining (CRSE) texts,
  • engage in academic discourse,
  • build academic vocabulary,
  • receive actionable feedback with an opportunity to revise based on that feedback,

they will be able to develop critical thinking abilities, enhance their cultural awareness, improve their communication skills, and foster a sense of ownership in their learning, ultimately leading to higher academic achievement and better preparation for postsecondary success, while navigating the complexities of life.

REPORT AN ABSENCE
To report an absence please fill out this form,  Be sure to include their full name and OSIS# as well as the date(s) they will be out of school.  Students should also email their teachers directly to try and receive the missed work.

Please email your request to gryan5@schools.nyc.gov.  Make sure to include your child's name and OSIS #.
SUBMIT AN ABSENCE NOTE/MEDICAL EXCUSE FROM SCHOOL
Absence notes or medical excuses from school can by email to gryan5@schools.nyc.gov  Be sure to include your child's full name and OSIS number in the body of the email.
CHANGE OF ADDRESS
Requests for change of address are done through OPEROO.  Please email gryan5@schools.nyc.gov be sent the link.  You will be asked to upload Proof of Address through the OPEROO link.
CHANGE OF GUARDIAN
Change of Guardian must be done in person in the Attendance Office
CHANGE OF PHONE NUMBER/UPDATE BLUE CARD
Emergency Blue Cards are updated through OPEROO. Please email gryan5@schools.nyc.gov receive the OPEROO link.

  • Speaker of the Council Adrienne Adams visits John Adams High School to explore our partnership with Global Kids, our Air Force JROTC program, our meditation room and more!

  • My Sister's Keeper Induction Ceremony

  • John Adams celebrates Diwali with New York State Assemblywoman Jenifer Rajkumar.

  • In partnership with the New York Blood Center, John Adams High School hosted its first ever community blood drive for sickle cell awareness.

  • John Adams HS Chapters of My Brother's Keeper, My Sister's Keeper, and Black Excellence club along with Global Kids took several John Adams students to MetLife Stadium to see an HBCU football game. Students had the opportunity to see Greek life in action as well as witness the big win from Howard University against Morehouse University.

  • John Adams hosted FDNY for a visit on career opportunities for our students.

  • Our Air Force JROTC leading our 9/11 Tribute. John Adams High School never forgets.

  • John Adams High School hosted their annual Field Day where each SLC competes against each other in a series of games for bragging rights. Congratulations to the Pioneers on becoming champion!
