Media and Fine Arts Academy
About the Program
Media and Fine Arts Academy is a learning community that prepares students for careers in communications, visual and performing arts—a blend of music, art, media, journalism, and theatre. Students will be exposed to rigorous curricula designed to expand their minds in courses that will challenge them to design the school yearbook, participate in specialty classes, write for the Campus newspaper, and act in our drama productions.
Concert/Band
An introduction class in which we will be practicing various styles and genres of concert band repertoire. The primary focus of this class will be to build a solid fundamental foundation for playing your instrument, reading and understanding rhythms and melody, and working on all aspects of musicality to become well rounded musicians.
Photography
A course that focuses on understanding the basic operations and functions of a digital single lens reflex camera and the manipulation of its settings to achieve a specific result. Students will learn about photographic elements of art and principles of design, composition, and lighting
Drama
General Drama is intended as an overview to dramatic and theatrical arts. Students are introduced to basic theatrical, stage and film terminology; basic elements and principles of theatrical performance and technologies; and the process of constructive critique.
Video Production
An introduction class designed to provide students with artistic, creative and historical background in the fields of video, broadcasting, and film production. In addition, this course provides instruction and training in pre-production, production and post production phases of project development. Students who are interested in a career in entertainment production have opportunities to explore the many jobs involved in the making of such productions.
Yearbook
This course is designed to develop students’ skills in yearbook production by providing experiences in selected aspects of yearbook production. Students learn basic principals of yearbook production and develop skills that include writing copy, captions and headlines; digital photography; desktop publishing and using appropriate technology tools for media production.
